| Portal
Oceania is continuation of our first and very successful
website about Australia called yesaustralia.com. Following our
expansion plan, we added New Zealand and changed the name into
portaloceania.com. Our goal is to promote the countries of
Oceania to people interested in study, travel, work, immigrate
or purchase any product or service offered in the region. We are
not a travel agency neither a study agency, what we do is just purely
marketing. Our priority is to inspire readers from all over the
world to come to Oceania and enjoy the marvelous environment and
life we have here. Doing so, we believe we are contributing to
increase the cultural and commercial exchange between Oceania
and other countries by having our products and services better
known abroad.

We
were born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where we lived until our
middle 30's. After some international trips, including some
Pacific Islands, Australia and New Zealand, we decided that it
was time for a life change, mainly looking for the future of our
kids. Rio de Janeiro was still very beautiful but very hard to
live due some degree of violence and lack of the authorities
about the fact. We left Rio and lived for a while in the
Northeast area of Brazil in a city called Natal, and it was very
good for a certain period of time.(at least beautiful without
violence).
Once returning
from a tourism trip in New Zealand, we read in a newspaper an
advertisement saying: "New Zealand is accepting application
from qualified Immigrants. Must have university degrees and
work experience to help the country to grow". We kept the
periodical in a drawer, and 6 months later after a violent
incident in Rio with an assault with gun on our heads and the
kids on the back seat of the car, we decided that enough is
enough. We applied to migrate to New Zealand in the General
Skills category, and one year later we were on our way.
We lived 7
years in Mt Maunganui on the North Island of New Zealand and got
the Kiwi citizenship. It was an incredible experience. In the
beginning we looked like aliens, because everything was so
different from our culture. Also, it was very hard to find
any other Brazilians living there. But with time and help of our
great kiwi friends, things got better and we settled happily to
the place. We loved New Zealand not only for the natural beauty,
but also for the people as well. Earn money was harder than in
Brazil, anyway, we had our living made with a Import and
distribution business we started there. It was a happy period in
our lives, watching our kids grow without stress. But there was
something missing... the summers were short and most of the time
we had to wear something warm (not tropical as Brazil).
During some
holidays in Australia, we've found the climate on the Gold Coast
more alike with the one we use to have, besides me and my son
could surf almost every day together during the vacations, and
without wetsuit. When we returned to New Zealand, we decided to
move and try live in Australia for a while.
We have been
living in Australia since 1999, and
it was easier to settle with the previous
cultural knowledge and cultural experience we acquired in New
Zealand. The Gold Coast climate suits us very well, and the
fact the Australian population is bigger than New Zealand's, it
opened more professional opportunities for us. It is very hard
to compare the two countries, because each one has their own
character and ways to think and act. In our opinion there is not
a best, one complements the other. Today we are very proud to be
Aussies, Kiwis, and Brazilians at the same level.
Today our kids
are grown up and doing things by themselves so now we do what we
love the most, which is travel and make new friends around
Australia and the world. This website is a collection of all the
experiences we had along these almost 15 years, and it became a
point to us to share it with others. At the same time, promoting
Australia and New Zealand which became like a father and
mother for us, is our professional priority. Due our free time,
we travel Australia, new Zealand and Pacific Island for fun, at
the same time we collect information to place in
portaloceania.com. Also, we dedicate to some of ours hobbies
which are snorkeling, Kite aerial photography with a camera
suspended by a kite, and active volcanoes exploration. The best
part of these trips is without any doubt the people we met on
the way. Our plans for the future is to change our Campervan
into a Motorhome, and join the "Grey Nomads" (people
after 50s that sells their homes and travel indefinitely around
Australia). Of course Portal Oceania is in our travel plans, and
probably we will be publishing it by satellite, from anywhere in
Australia, New Zealand or Oceania, of course with
the help of god.
