Coromandel

The Coromandel Peninsula, offers great tours and thing to do in a spectacular environment. It doesn't matter if in Thames, Whitianga, Whangamata, Waihi or Coromandel Town, there are plenty to do for all. Below a list of the main tourist attractions in the Coromandel Peninsula...

 Attractions  Description
Hot Water Beach A beach in which during low tide if you dig a small hole in the sand you find very warm water, thus the name. Hot water beach.
Thames The city of Thames has many historical buildings, which are well preserved, from the time of the big gold rush. 
Kiwi Dundee Adventures Guided tours of forests, gold mines, and caves filled with glowworms, and spectacular beaches. Pauanui – Tairua – Whangamata
High Zone Adventure Find out your skill on an open-air 15 m trapezium. For all ages and different levels of adrenalin.  Whitianga.
Miller Helicopters Scenic helicopter tours of the entire peninsula. In Thames
Driving Creek Railway & Pottery Right in the north of Coromandel Town. A small train passing through a forest filled with the “ Kauri Tree” finishing on a lookout with a spectacular view. 
   
Cave Cruzer Adventures Visit and listen to the wild sounds of marine caves, visit the famous Cathedral Cove, and get to know the islands, beaches, and coral reefs in this national marine park. Recommended. Leaves from Whitianga
Hahei Explorer Daily adventures at Hahei Marine reserve. See everything in just one hour, including Cathedral Cove.  Leaves form Hahei. 
Ocean Wave Tours Explore the sheltered waters of Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve. Travel along the beautiful volcanic coastline right up to Cathedral Cove, Orua Cave, and Champagne Rock. Leaves from the jetty at Whitianga. 
Blue Boat Cruises A 2hrs boat cruise along the sheltered waters and visit Cathedral Cove, Hahei, and the volcanic islands of the marine reserve. A 40ft cruiser, which also takes you to some popular seal, penguin and bird sighting areas. Leaves from Whitianga. 
Waters Edge Catch the best Fishes in a 46 ft Randal. A tour company specializing in deep-sea fishing. Boat with bathrooms, all fishing equipment, as well as a barbeque for you to cook you catch fresh. There is excellent diving and fishing in Coromandel. Leaves from the port at Whitianga. 
Tairua Dive & Fishing Tour that takes you to the pristine Aldermen Islands. Great diving. PADI DIVE COURSES.  Leaves from the Esplanade – Paku, Tairua. 
Piako Ostrich Farm Tour through an Ostrich farm, Has a shop selling Ostrich products, and you can have a free tasting of the meat of this tasty animal.  It is closed in July. Tairua 311 Piako Rd – off Hauraki Rd. 
Matatoki Cheese For the cheese lover, Visit an organic Cheese producer, and taste some Kiwi made cheese.  Cnr SH 26 & Wainui Rd, Matato, Thames.
Ohinemuri Eestate Winery & Restaurant Visit a winery, which houses an excellent restaurant. Moresby Street, Karangahake Gorge.
Cathedral Cove Sea Kayaking A kayak tour that takes you exploring the many marine caves. 88 Hahei beach Rd, Hahei. 
Coromandel Goldfield Centre & Stamper Battery The last gold mine still operating from its original condition. Guided 1-hour tour of the mine. 410 Buffalo Rd, Coromandel Town.
Goldmine Experience Another underground Gold mine for you to visit. SH 25, Thames.
Newmont Waihi Gold Visit this open air mine, which still produces $1.5 million in Gold and silver per week. Education centre & Gold Legacy centre, Waihi. 
Road 309 One of the most beautiful roads in NZ, which takes you from one side of the peninsula to the other. During the way, stop and take the hike to Castle Rock, as well as the Waiau Falls
Coromandel Forest Park Great bush walk through the forest, with beautiful views.
Coromandel and Moehau Ranges Bush walking through these ranges offering sensational views of the mountains. 
New Chums Beach In the north of Mercury Bay, 30 minutes walk along the beach from Whangapoua. This beach is considered one of the most beautiful in all of New Zealand. 
Aotearoa Lodge & Tours Tours of 2 or 3 days of the Peninsula. 70 Racecourse Rd, Whitianga.
Strongman Coachlines Tour along the Coromandel Peninsula. With the option of leaving Auckland by catamaran to get to Coromandel Town. Visit the islands, gold mines, and travel in old style trains. 316 Tiki Rd, Coromandel Town.  
Johansen & Wincorp Adventures Ltd Offering Tours of half days up to 3 full days. Forests, 4x4 safaris, Glow worms at night, and learn about Maori medicine. For all ages. Pauanui Beach.
Driving Creek Railway & Pottery North of Coromandel. See "Kauri Trees" in a small train that climbs the mountain. At the top, a lookout provides spetacular views.
